Frequently Asked Questions

At Beat Route Tours, we specialise in tailor-made trips across Sri Lanka—whether you're planning a dream honeymoon, a family reunion, a milestone birthday, or a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with friends. We're a family-run company, and we take pride in crafting unforgettable experiences, big or small. Here are some of the questions we’re often asked. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to get in touch—we’re always happy to help.

Absolutely! We love welcoming families—and as parents ourselves, we know exactly what it takes to make travelling with children in Sri Lanka smooth, safe, and fun. Our vehicles are spacious and comfortable for the whole family.

Children under 6 who share your bed can travel free of charge (you may just need to cover their meals). Children aged 6–12 are charged a reduced rate. Children over 12 are charged at the standard adult rate. Each hotel has its own policy on extra beds and meal supplements—we’ll talk you through everything during the planning stage. Sri Lanka is a magical place for kids to explore, and with family at the heart of its culture, you’ll find it incredibly welcoming for little ones.

Definitely. Whether you're travelling as a group, couple, or solo, we’ll make sure you're comfortable. Our vehicles are roomy and ideal for families, friend groups, or even multi-generational trips (we’ve done those with our own family too!). We simply work out the cost per person, and tailor everything to suit your group’s preferences.

Yes, absolutely! We’re happy to accommodate your preferred hotel choices whenever possible. However, there may be a few exceptions—such as properties where we have concerns about quality standards, or locations that do not offer suitable accommodation for drivers.

That said, we’re always open to building positive relationships with new accommodation providers, and we will do our very best to make your preferences work. Your comfort and satisfaction are our top priorities.

Sri Lanka has two monsoon seasons, though weather patterns can vary a little year to year. Here’s a general guide: December–March: Best for the West Coast, South Coast, and Hill Country April–September: Ideal for the East Coast, North, and Ancient Cities We’ve travelled all over the island with our own kids, in every season—so if you’re unsure, just ask! We’ll help you plan around the weather and your family’s needs. Travelling off-season can be a great way to avoid crowds and enjoy cooler temperatures.

We’re a web-based company, which helps us keep prices competitive for families and small groups. While we don’t have a physical office, we’re always happy to chat via phone, email, or Facebook Messenger—whatever’s easiest for you. We’ll be with you every step of the way, just like we would be for our own family’s trip.

No need to worry—your personal Driver/Guide will be tracking your flight and will be there to greet you, even if you're delayed by a few hours. If your delay stretches over a few days, please contact your UK tour manager as soon as possible so we can revise your itinerary if needed. Because we pre-pay for hotels, some charges may still apply, but we’ll always try to minimise disruption or cost—something we’d expect if it were our own holiday.

If you’re unable to travel at all, our cancellation policy will apply. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance, just in case.

Yes, you’ll need a short-stay visa, which must be obtained online before you travel (visas on arrival are no longer available). To make things easier, we’ve included a helpful link in the “In the Know” section. The visa fee is not included in your tour price.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry.

We always recommend speaking to your GP or local travel clinic, especially if you're travelling with children. As parents ourselves, we know how important peace of mind is when travelling with little ones.

Vaccination advice can change, and there are mixed views on whether anti-malarials are needed in Sri Lanka, so it’s best to get expert advice tailored to your family. .

Of course! While our tours are designed to help you experience the best of Sri Lanka, we completely understand that sometimes you just want to unwind—especially if you're travelling with young children or after a busy season at home.

If a week or two on the beach is more your style, we’ll happily plan a relaxing beach holiday for you. We’ve tested out many of the family-friendly beach resorts ourselves, so we’ll make sure it suits everyone’s needs.

We offer Half Board and Bed & Breakfast only. We’ve found this gives you the freedom to enjoy your day without having to rush back for lunch at the hotel and also the joy of eating from a variety of tantalising places whether its local food your after or something else you are hankering for.

Don’t worry—there are plenty of great places to stop along the way. Your driver/guide will recommend restaurants to suit all tastes and dietary needs, including child-friendly options we trust.
